Just wandering about …
The weather was bright but a little chilly for me.
And this goose was looking out …
Well, I went pond side, following the path of the geese. And started snapping … They’re very intriguing and delicate looking, but energetic.
And hungry …
The Columbus Day brought surprises with it… First Fall came to the pond
Then a visitor came to the pond …

What was it … Didn’t mind being near the heron.
They come in pairs although pictured here , the fourth one is out of frame.
This bird is uncommon around here, it is migrant and usually stays on the shore line of Maryland. The bird is the American Avocet and the next day I went down to the pond shore … More later
I know for some crows can be off putting. They’re hard to shoot because they’re so black that from a distance they are always in silhouette. And you normally can’t get close. I got lucky and there was a berry bush near by .
And summer ends and the fall will soon be here with new guests at the pond.
The Heron getting an evening snack. The water ripples across the pond as the Heron watches and waits.
Sometimes the geese have issues and they get a little fussed.
The cormorant which as been staying the summer at his little island, stretches his wings.
And a heron searches for a snack.
And continues to search but the heron looks like he’s dancing. The video takes a few moments to load.
So summer is coming to a close in the next several weeks, then Fall comes. Some of the geese are getting ready. They really have powerful wingspans.
I’m not a bug person but this is an attractive butterfly.

The moth is not bad looking either.

But of course the cormorant has a friend swimming in the little pond.
With the right light the pond becomes liquid gold for a duck to swim in…
For reasons I can not fathom, this little pond attracts a wide variety of migrant birds. Well they are wide variety to me. I’m sure there are other places with many more birds but for a pond so close to an urban center. I’m just glad I can witness it. This bird liked it here, although it was hot on this day.
So Summer storms come up in this area and this would become a downpour. It gets humid afterwords but the right before the storm. The birds are getting their sun in … but also their escape.
Note the big web feet of Cormorant. This fellow would stay for several more weeks before moving on.
But the storm clouds are coming.
And the geese make ready to leave.
