Report from the Homeless Ministry

First I have survived although what all of you were worried about? I
can rise to the ocassion. I’m now in the land of plenty @ Panera. I
was hungry and has not eaten sine the night before. I was too nervous
to eat.

So I didn’t get much sleep, but rose early. Left the house by 0630.
Was doing well, but got confused because the maps were wrong! So there
was a time that if the road cops were around I would have clocked 90
miles per hour got there on time. Todd was waiting for the rest of
the volunteers and by eight we were on the road. The weather was cool
but dry a blessing. Todd wanted to make two stops prior to the
Lexington market . The first stop was a man feature in the local
paper. He wanted two volunteers. A very pious woman said she would
go. No one else step forward so yes I went. The gentleman in question
live under a small walk bridge in a very nice part of town. Yes right
under the noses of the better off. Todd had shown us the wooded
footpath and off we went. Now we got to the part were the gentleman
was living and it was kind of steep he help me good thing to might
have fallen. He was very kind, gracious and had a troubled life he
was worried with the publicity he might be chased. But he had a
generosity of spirit that was touching. He liken us to the two women
who found the empty tomb of Jesus. I was deeply touched. My companion
was more expressive of faith than I was but we prayed for him. We then
left and he escorted out good thing I might have fallen. We were met
by 3 other volunteers apparently people were concern we were taking to
long. Time flew for us. Go figure!

Next stop another place but that wad a bust the people had moved on

Next Lexington Market by alley way. The volunteers scampered out table
went up, food bagged, and Todd went to the streets. And we remained
bagging and helping the homeless customers get their food,
toiletries, and socks. So much need the food ran out in an hour; then
the socks; the snacks; and the water and clothing was also handed
out. There were children too! At times it was chaotic butgood chaos!

Once the supplies were done I walked over to were Todd was and a man
was given some bible study. Very ineresting! And then we headed to
the church. And I’m now here munching on a sandwich.

I want to say it was a blessing to do this thing! And if I can do it
so can you. Also I think I’m going to do it again, but at the very
least I’m going to help get more supplies like socks, better bags etc.

There is a lot of need!
